The story telling is well paced and highly entertaining.

The plot twists and turns like the mighty Amazon! I have only read a few chapters at this stage but despite this i am happy to award this international phenomena four stars. I may update this review as i progress. All i can say is that this is one seriously impressive teen book.
Perfectly pitched to its target audience, the book started off slowly but by the book's end you are totally gripped with every gut wrenching twist and turn the book has to offer. There is sadness, and joy but with the events expected to unfold later in the series you wont want to miss a single word.
One of the best YA novels ever written, easily worth full marks from me.
Well done, Ms Roth on gifting the world with an unequivocal classic. BFN Greggorio! Before it was a movie it was a book.
I actually saw the movie first - but missed the ending. I think that actually helped as I could picture what was happening easily.
This book is fast paced and there isn't pages of description to really give a mental picture of locations and settings. Seeing the movie first definitely didn't detract from my enjoyment - I couldn't put it down - even though I had a fair idea what was coming.
Definitely recommended reading.
I personally read this to see if my eleven year old daughter would enjoy it. We both did. It may be a little far fetched to some but thats why it is a story, Roth has created a world that is relatable but yet vastly different and the characters both main and secondary are both lovable and easy to dislike.
Its a world you can escape to, it about figuring out where you fit in life and its a really good read. After all the hype about this latest young adult dystopian novel I thought I should read Divergent.
While it was a reasonable read, it's hard not to compare it unfavourably to The Hunger Games. Certainly the dystopia presented in The Hunger Games is far more brutal and therefore somewhat questionable for young adults, but I still found the story and characters more compelling and entertaining.
Divergent does have some interesting character development, and a decent plot. However, I found the idea of the factions just a bit jarring, somehow I couldn't quite believe such a society would really exist, and this made the book a bit difficult to engage with.
I did read the next two books and in my opinion the second book Insurgent was similar to the first, but the third Allegiant was a struggle to get through. Not just for the teens. At the outset let me tell you that I am a mature age reader and Divergent is obviously targeted to readers in their early teens. Having said that, Divergent is a good read for all generations, providing that they are fans of the current trend in books toward the fantasy land: Ah La Hunger Games, Twilight trilogy etc.
On the downside Divergent could be in danger of being compared as being too close a relative to the Hunger games. Particularly with the heroine and her relationships. Divergent is set somewhere in the future where, on reaching adolescence young people go through a process of being chosen to become part of a particular section of the community shades of Harry Potter?
Each group having a particular mission and attitude to life and generally keep themselves to themselves whilst not being particularly complementary of each other. Boring Plot? Through everything that is going on, Tris and Four are falling more in love and are working together to save their world.
Insurgent is like a lot of middle books in a trilogy. It takes you from the first book to the third and fills in the gaps in between like Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring.
Tobias and Tris have to hide from Eric's Dauntless members. Tobias is called to a mysterious meeting and the person he meets with turns out to be his mother, Evelyn, someone he had been told long ago was dead. She turns out to be the leader of the factionless which turn out to be living much better than it seemed. Also a lot of them are Divergent and well armed. Evelyn plans to lead an army of factionless to destroy the Erudites and some Dauntless that are now in power along with all the stored information of the Erudites have accumulated.

Tris and Tobias must build an army to stop this destruction because one of the things that would be destroyed would be a video that might answer a lot of questions about how their world came to be. There must be a coalition of various factions that are not under Evelyn's control.
Unfortunately the main leader of these groups is Marcus, the abusive father of Tobias and the abusive ex of Evelyn. The last book of the trilogy is Allegiant.
The book is excellent and the movie which bombed at the box office have absolutely nothing in common. Tris and Tobias soon discover that this world they've run to is not the answer to their prayers they thought it would be. There is horrible discrimination by those considered genetically pure against those considered genetically defective and Tris is considered genetically pure and Tobias genetically defective.
Sales then doubled with the publication of the second novel just eight months later generating more interest in the first book. Fans objected when he took some time off to expand a short story into a prequel novel called New Spring, so he decided to shelve his plans for additional prequels in favor of finishing off the last two volumes in the series.
He rejected criticisms of the later volumes of the series slowing down in pace in order to concentrate on minor secondary characters at the expense of the main characters from the opening volumes, but acknowledged that his structure for the tenth volume, Crossroads of Twilight where he showed a major scene from the prior book, Winter's Heart , from the perspective of the main characters that were not involved in the scene , had not worked out as he had planned.
According to Forbes , Jordan had intended for it to be the final book "even if it reaches 2, pages.
The final book of the series uses Jordan's original title, A Memory of Light. The book was published on January 8, Jordan had left very little in the way of notes for these additional novels—only two sentences in the case of the sequel trilogy.
Red Eagle cited delays and changes to the creative team on the DB Pro end. On March 17, , they showcased ten pages of art from the prelude to the series "The Wheel of Time: Eye of the World 0 — Dragonmount" on their website.
