But there are some commonalities between these definitions. Executive presence requires leadership skills—to get people to take action; confidence—and enough of it to inspire it in others; willingness to act—to tackle hard problems head-on; and communication skills—so you can engage employees and spur them to action.
Much of executive presence comes down to that last point, communication skills. All of that is highly theoretical.

I came across this book because one of the authors, Belle Linda Halpern, was one of my singing coaches. A talented musical storyteller and interpreter of cabaret song, she's also a savvy business woman and communication trainer.
She helps business leaders apply performance skills to their presenting and organizational communication. The paradox of great performance is that it requires authenticity and vulnerability.
For a performance to work, it can't be "performed" but must be grounded in real character, feelings, and values. After answering questions like these, you will know why you want to intentionally build your Executive Presence. You will also have defined what success is for you, which is important.
Once this is clear, you can choose the tactics needed to close the gap. At the end of the day, those people who have gravitas, charisma, respect and trust have a strong sense of self and choose who they want to be in every situation.
