At hands length at most. Oct 26, Joe rated it liked it Shelves: The second edition was published in , but even so, some of the recommendations seem a bit outdated even for back then. I'd rather the book be aimed at people using modern tools and let folks using older, antiquated tools come up with their own workarounds rather than proposing everyone use the least common denominator.

However, that was really my only complaint. The case studies and examples are well-chosen and highlight many common business scenarios. Aug 03, Daniel Galassi rated it really liked it Shelves: This is probably one of those books that every business intelligence developer should read.

Dimensional modelling is not always properly understood by practitioners but this book will help a whole range of professionals do a better job at analysing requirements, defining metrics, creating reusable models logical and physical and implement flexible analytical solutions.

This was a required textbook for one of my classes going toward my degree. This book was easy to follow and the font size was a good. I would have liked if there were more diagrams and "try it yourself" examples in the book.

This would have helped with my confusion on a few of the chapters. It was well worth the money to rent and I'll probably end up buying it. Definitely recommend! Jun 23, Cory rated it really liked it. That is one way to do it.

Very practical minus the fluff. Jan 23, Louis Marier rated it it was amazing. A reference for dimensional modeling. If I had read it before, it would have saved me a lot of headaches.

Dec 26, Sathish marked it as to-read. Feb 15, Dan rated it liked it. Really dry reading. Not a great starting off point for beginners. But it would be great as a reference book.

Sep 18, Timon Karnezos rated it really liked it. Kimball does a good job of covering the basics. Approachable, easy to put down and pick up a week later.

Lots of repetitive wording, not enough technical stuff, eg why is denormalized better than 3Nf? Faster, maybe but what about storage, etc. Jan 18, Laurent rated it it was amazing Shelves: LA bible du DWH. Jan 17, Ira Burton rated it did not like it Shelves: A completely trivial and useless book, unless you are looking for th , foot view of the topic of data warehousing.

If you are looking for any technical details, ignore this book. Mandy Chessell.
