Let's start a list of what ebook formats the iPad/iPhone can read, and what apps you need . I use Good reader to view my pdf files on my iPad. Bluefire Reader is the best way to read Adobe® Content Server protected eBooks on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. With Bluefire Reader you. Best places to buy ebooks if you have an Ipad / Iphone? .. The COOL-ER ebook reader uses the typical Vizplex E-ink display used in other.

Here is how to do that. A great way to discover ebooks is Twitter. You can follow accounts of Amazon Kindle or Project Gutenberg, and if you open a link in the Safari browser you should be able to purchase the book, or download it without switching the device.

Using an e-reading app on the iPhone is actually a good way to buy ebooks on the go, and not pay extra money to buy the iPad or e-reader with 3G. With the iPhone you can find and start reading free ebooks without the need to switch to the computer.

If I can get a free ebook from a Project Gutenberg directly to the iPhone, why should I use a paid app? The sites that are worth checking out are Project Gutenberg m. If you want to add free ebooks to your Kindle app, you can browse the sites mentioned above, but you can also find titles that currently went free in the Kindle Store.

Go to Amazon Kindle storefront in Safari amazon. Amazon search engine will automatically redirect you to a section of Kindle Store that lists only free titles. Obviously, most e-reading apps offer in-app dictionary or a dictionary look-up in a web browser built into the app. But what about translations? Ebooks would become much more popular in non-English speaking countries if there were enough mother-language books available.

For the time being many users from outside US can find their favorite titles only in English. Therefore, having an option to quickly translate a word in an e-reading app is more than welcomed. So far there are two apps I know of that offer in-app translation. If you use Google Play Books, translations are performed in two taps, and you can not only translate single words, but entire paragraphs.

The feature is so convenient that after Google launched Play Books in Poland I almost completely stopped using Kindle for iOS, my previous default e-reading iPhone app.

Google Play Books is not ideal, however. If you are not into Google Play Books, you can still translate single words in any e-reading app that offers Google look-up.

There are two steps to get a translation:. To me, instant translation is one of the most important features that could remove language barriers and popularize e-reading and reading in general across the world.

A lot more iPhone users read news via RSS feed apps rather than read books. Apps like Feedly or Flipboard can be a great way to discover new ebooks to read. Getting books to the daily source of news is a good way to keep in touch with book reading. You can add book sources to a news application as long as they offer RSS feed. I recommend two major sources:. The site offers a feed with new and updated titles. Up to new books are added to the feed each day. Amazon offers feeds for almost any category in its web store.

Kindle Store bestsellers are listed in several categories, and each one has its own feed. The feeds from Kindle Store are specific. They are updated a couple of times a day, and one title can enter the feed several times. This is due to the fact that Amazon feed lists top 10 titles in every category, so if the item is out and then in again, it appears in the feed for the second time.

Also, the titles are not shown in the order of appearance, but by their rank in Kindle Store. You may say that reading an article from a news feed is different from reading a book, because there is a huge difference in the amount of time we need to finish.

But can you finish a novel in one go? Probably not. We read in chunks. But how much free time do you have a day to read a book? Is it three or four hours or maybe is it half an hour here and half an hour there? Interested in getting more posts like this? Please subscribe by RSS or email. Founder of Ebook Friendly. If it would add a "power reading" one line only version with constant refresh it would be perfect. The app is great, sometimes when converting books to ePub, the formatting gets weird and hard to read. Idk if they have straight reading from PDF yet, but overall, this is the most used app on my iPad. On top of that, I read so much faster. Plus most ebooks r free.

I finally gave up on Bookshelf after recent updates trashed it.

Best lists

This app works flawlessly with every book I've tried so far, and the Feedbooks downloads were fast and easy. The flaw I encountered was a total inability to log onto Baen books and download stuff I've paid for. Aside from that one problem, the app is slick, and very well executed, and the speed reading concept works surprisingly well. Highly recommended! Brakuje tylko funkcji czytania formatu PDF. It gives you so many options of books to read, and even let's you change settings like background, font size, and font color.

I suggest getting it, especially if you have an iPad. Very good app. You can set the font in size and style to suit your preferences. Missing is a search function. You have to scroll through the whole list to get to the author or title.

Also you should be able to edit the author's name because many a time the names are spelled two or more different ways.

Keep up the good work. Love this app! But I can't figure out how to transfer books from iBooks through the iTunes file share.

I thought the recent updates allowed this. Is there a way to get support to help explain? I would use this app more if it could access content stored in iBooks. I stick with iBooks for the iPhone to iPad syncing.

This app is close to perfect. It needs a dictionary, bookmarking, highlighting, and copy functionality. The speed reading capability is excellent.

Love this app. It's fantastic for reading all the classics I've been trying to find time for. I do wish it was easier to read articles online, though. The only thing that could possibly make it better would be to some how read my iPad kindle books with it. Really a great app.

Only thing better would be to get more books, compatibility with kindle or nook accounts. You guys are really listening. Thank you so much for the update. Also ability to add our own books is really helpful. If you want to improve one's reading ability or just like to read this is the APP for you.

Helps me focus in reading that's never been possible before. Would have given it 5 stars but the program lacks the following basic functions Highlighting text Dictionary access Please put these features in updates. But bravo for what you've accomplished so far.

Helemaal super. En in combinatie met calibre ebooks is het er op zetten van de ebooks ook een eitje. I really like the way in which the application allows me to configure the settings for my own requirements. The ability to change font sizes, margins, of highlighted words, highlighting style, and speed are great.

For my purposes, plenty of books are available that interest me. I do wish the instructions provided better guidance on how to maximize the benefits in the shortest time. I have some mild, funky eye muscle dysfunction that makes reading conventional text formats really taxing.

My eyes jump around the text, dont focus easily. To try to build strength and good habits, I've been using quick reader every day to read an article or two that I've saved to instapaper. It is SO much easier for me to focus my eyes and track text using Quickreader, I wish I could use it on every web page and ebook.

The instapaper integration especially is excellent. It's a good alternative to iBooks, and love the speed reader functions. The time to completion is nice too.

Quick guide to using iPhone as e-reader

Used everyday to read essential on Internet and often to read books. Flexible settings and remembering last page read is great, but being able to stop reading and back up is super too.

An essential to my reading. I use this app almost exclusively with the pasteboard to copy text in from other programs. I thought my reading speed was established and could not really be changed. I tried to improve it last summer using "triple your reading speed". This did not stick because it, initially at least, focused more on just seeing more of the page. The book would present a bunch of letters and you were supposed to try to see and identify as many of them as possible without moving your eyes.

This method probably works. But you'd have to be pretty committed to practice on something so abstract. Quickreader, on the other hand, actually lets you read books. It comes preloaded with a nice collection of classics and some stuff I was surprised to see, like some Kurt Vonnagut and the Bhagavad Gita. There's 3 volumes of Pablo coehlo. So, whatever you're into you can find something of interest, right out of the box. However, things really get interesting when you load your own books.

A trio of apps makes this not just an app to teach you how to speed read, but actually encourages you to read books you wanted to read anyway, but at a much faster pace.

What I have set up is calibre on my pc, so I can convert any ebooks to ePub, the format required for the reader. Then I drag and drop my epubs to Dropbox essential app for iPad and then tell Dropbox to open my epubs using quick reader. So here's my experience so far. When I started, I used the default speed of wpm. After 2 days I am up to , and probably could go faster, and will tomorrow.

I find I am motivated to practice especially since I am reading my books of choice and not random letters ala triple your reading speed. One thing I think I should mention is how different reading faster is from my regular reading. I thought I would have trouble with comprehension reading faster, but I have noticed that the way this app works, you really stay more engaged because the process is more active.

It's also easier and more natural to stay with a book for a shorter period of time, given our species' limits to sustained attention. Easy to customize but I would like it better if I could add in my own books from iBooks. Great app it is very thorough and complete with plenty of books available although I have one issue.. Amazing app for training, but a note-taking feature would be better for practical uses too.

Great App for the gym. Just blow the font up and put it on the elliptical bookrest for hands-free page-turning. Makes the workout fly by. A good book reader even without the speed reading. I tend to use it plain vanilla unless there is something I have to read for work that I would't normally choose, then savour the books I enjoy at my own pace. Well worth getting. Je vois que c'est aussi disponible en francais. Ca vaut le coup, marche tt bien en anglais, doit etre aussi efficace en francais.

A recommander. I love this program, whether to speed up your reading or just used as a normal electronic book reader.

Thanks to all the programmers. This is my preferred ereader. I like that it is easy on the eyes and easy to use. It should have a reverse foreground and background color feature so you could have white text over a black background. I'm glad you can now import books in iTunes.

It's just that good of an app;. Recomendo converter os e-books para ePub com o Calibre e importar pelo iTunes para o quick reader.

I was set to buy MegaReader until I realized QuickReader is basically the same code although QuickReader obviously offers the timing functionality to help improve speed-reading; I don't use it for that, but as a reader. Features requested: Please update! I use it to access my calibre library. But it is pretty cool to see how fast I read. This app while limited in the importation of book titles, no kindle or iBooks integration, is really a joy for improving your speed reading.

I import from instapaper which is linked to Zite and other feeds. I recommend this app for reading articles in a timely manner. Kindle or iBooks should scoop up this apps functionality in their application. AI seria perfeito! This app helped me to up my reading speed from to in less than 2 months. It has a large library for the price and access to Project Gutenberg's database, allowing free downloads of thousands of classics ranging from Plato to Twain all for free.

This app is excellent for improving reading speed and provides a plethora of available books at no additional cost, making it a viable alternative for a library. This app is truly deserving of 5 stars! Really diverse and wide selection of books and the "speed reading" functions are brilliant. I've been using this for half a year and am convinced that it enhanced me reading skills.

I really enjoy this app. I'd really love to see a feature that quizzes you at the end of a chapter to test comprehension. I mean speed reading is one thing, but understanding what's being said is another. Easy to use, but too soon or me to judge impact.

Other books: MCITP 70-642 EBOOK

Comes with an incredible colloction of books, tho. This is a great reader! The speed reading option is invaluable, and the standout feature it has above the other readers.

This reader could change literacy and enhance students' reading levels if it was used in education. This app does exactly what it says it will and has a fantastic assortment of literature included.

Definitely worth the price. It's like Cydia for your brain—real deal. I love it! I jus wish there was an easier way to upload books to it. Then we'd be in the game..

I got this app to replace Stanza after the iOS 5 update; and I am in love! I use it all the time to get caught up on all the free classics. Not only am I now a better read person, but my reading speed has almost doubled. This is a truly first rate app. I copy and paste in what I want to read and it's much better than having one or two words flashed at me. By far the best app of its kind in the world. I am reading words a minute! Great app, helps me practice my speed reading.

5 of the Best Ebook Reader Apps for iOS

My biggest problem with it is that I font the guiding system too pulse like rather than flowing from one piece to the next.

Users asked for the ability to import books and they listened. Completely customizable text color and backgrounds make it soft on the eyes. I used stanza until this last release. Great job!! I love this e reader but I read a lot of books I want to take notes for. Can you add a highlight method which saves the highlighted notes to review later.

Using Calibre, I've been able to get any book I can think of on this app. I've also been using the paste function to read assignment texts off of websites.

This app is amazingly useful. I can import all my PDF books and read them in my phone anywhere I'm at. Ready on the exercise bike at the gym is one of my favorites.

Put the speed reading in and get alot of reading don while you work out. This app is a perfect companion to Calibre for the pc. To me, this is the best of both worlds, learning to speed read with the convenience of an iPad and the technology of a programmed learning tool.

Quick Reader does a good job at helping you train to improve reading habits. It's highly customizable as far as speed, colors and layout, which works well.

I wish there was a way to program lessons and receive reminders. After all, speed reading is like any other skill, it only works if is constantly being used. Building lessons and programming reading tasks would help those of us who have a difficult time adhering to self imposed schedule. I loved this reader before the update, with it's great speed reading mechanism which allows you to easily set a rate you are comfortable with.

Or you can switch to normal reading with a couple of taps. Now, with the update, they've made it dead easy to import your own non-DRM books in! The only thing I would ask is for some way to be able to set the start point on a page for the speed reading highlight. If you flip the page accidentally or look at the chapter list, it starts from the top of the page each time.

This is one of the greatest updates ever for an app I have seen in a long time. Thank you so much. I've always loved this app. I'll love it better when it connects to Kindle. Will be five stars for me once there is an option to hide the iPhone status bar. That drives me nuts since it's always in a white font and therefore distracting when reading at night. The upgrade to 3. Of course you can't please everyone… I was happy just being able to import a book at a time from Calibre.

This is the most useful app I got. If you like to read, this one totally rocks, plus you get books with it that are free. Adore it! My entire family are readers with kindles and nooks, and this app let's me keep up with them on my iPhone. It really is easy to use, very customizable, and worth every penny. I can warmly recommend this app for reading books. Much better then ibooks because it actually teaches you to enhance your reading speed a LOT, extremely customizable in colors, fonts, etc.

I use it every single day. Kudos guys, keep up the excellent work! Perhaps you could include a better page-turning graphical effect to enhance the look and feel, and display page numbers to help the reader keep track of their progress. Five stars nevertheless!! Great little app — especially like the feature that lets you preset the speed and number of stops per line their highlighting tool will use and then pull up thousands of classics and public domain books up to use this with.

Not only do you have easy access to all these great books, but you also have tool that increases your reading speed as you read them. This app is a great tool for increasing reading speed, but do not trust those who claim you will be able to import eBooks with this program. There is no such function available, as I do not count manually copying and pasting each page of an eText as any sort of efficient method of importing.

For the price, however, this program offers a very nice selection of texts, making it a worthwhile purchase. What am I supposed to do? My operation was as follows: It doesn't seem to have specifics for it in QuickReader. To me is, by far, the best app for speed reading.

It really trains my eyes. I so wish there was a version for Mac too. I'd love it if it had more features like Ace Reader Pro. Bit for what it is, it's a great app.

I love the ability to read books at a faster pace. I also love the wide variety of classic books available. Also, the App layout is very nice. This is a great app! This app is wonderful. Simply put, it trains you to read swiftly and effectively in a short period of time.

Few classes can compare. Truly worth the time and money invested. I am still shocked at how easy it is to load text from the web. One thing I would like to see- An option that flashes the chosen number of words on the screen along with the highlight option that currently exist. I would give more stars but, we all need room for improvement. I purchased this app months ago and thought it was pretty good. However the free book content was not particularly interesting to me so I stopped using it.

However I recently discovered Calibre an app that allows conversion of ebooks into different formats. This means I am now able to download my books from my computer into QuickReader using Calibre's content server facility. I don't know if this is a new feature or just one I had missed, but it makes this app invaluable now.

I have already almost doubled my reading speed in the last two days and because I am reading books I like the interest value is unlikely to wane as in the case of similar apps.

The only request for improvement I could make would be a way to auto ramp up your speed to a pre-set level as reading at the speed you left off at immediately having put the book down for a while can be a little difficult at first.

A gradual increase to a pre-set speed would negate that. I don't review very often but thought I would offer some praise for this app as it is so darned good. With Calibre support, Instapaper support, the speed reader mode, and good formatting options this is the best ereader app yet. Suggestions for improvements: With the font size set to maximum it is close to RSVP but not quite. Keeps me focused on the page and not every squirrel that runs by.

Made me a better reader in general. Just wish I could load all my books. Love this app for speed reading. I'm still waiting for a great speed reading app for kindle or other protected content. What a pleasure to find something so effective and well thought out.

This app is fantastic. My reading has improved after only a few practice sessions and it's easy to use. Completely worth it.

PS…Would it be possible to import your own books from kindle? That would be an amazing upgrade. This is a good reader, compatible with Calibre's content server, too! The speed reading "teacher" is really nice but lacks a dictionary, which would compliment this app nicely!

I use it in the metro going to the office and all the way until I land in my bed… Wherever whenever I feel like reading. Prima app, DRMvrije boeken mail je naar jezelf en open je in quickreader. Heerlijk snel lezen door de vele instelmogelijkheden en de prettige kleurschema's. They should seriously consider incorporating this app into the schools learning system.

It's great. I'm in college n it's helped me by far with my reading abilities amazingly. Terrific layout and font choices Much better screen display than almost all other ebook apps, including Kindle. But for books from the Baen Free Library and Smashwords, at least, italics are stripped out and presented as roman type. Fix this, and I'd give it five stars. Nice speed reading app, easy to use, would be 5 stars if had native PDF support.

Excellent integration with Calibre ebook manager. My favourite app. Works brilliantly and really helps reading speed.

Also tells you how long left to the end of the book. Works with multiple formats. Love it! This app not only turns your iPod into an ereader but also helps improve your reading speed. Amazing little thing and it continues to get better with each update.

Excelente app. I suggest a forum in your website to post experiences and improvements in our reading. No shame, no glory I started at wpm, after a week I'm at wpm reading comfortably, I want to read faster. To at least wpm. I'll get there for sure. Pasteboard is great! The only issue I have with this e-reader is that you cannot read purchased books only the free books that is already in the library.

For this reason I have to use 2 different apps. Other than that I really like it. A great book app with lots of included classics and enough options to make late night reading a pleasure. Prima app. Vergelijkbaar met Stanza maar met praktische extra's die je helpen jouw leessnelheid te verhogen. I was able tok find this as a decent alternative. I have been using the speed reader option to help me get faster. I love this reader. Wish it would remember last orientation.

Alway need to unlock and lock to go back to landscape orientation. I used to love reading as a kid but that got lost a long the way from high school to university. This app is loaded with books and useful reading tools that have renewed my old passion. Well worth the buy. Best reader i've used. Easy to navigate and good selection of books to choose from. Lots of options to fine tune your page and font. It would be nice if you could review earler chapters while keeping your bookmark in place. I agree.

Now that It is a dependable reader that has all the required features plus some of its own like the speed reader training. This will now be my 'most used' app on Touch and iPad.

If you like to read get this application.

Goede service! This is a nice little app, and like it's sibling MegaReader, a decent replacement for the sadly iOSdefunct Stanza. Other nice Stanza features I miss: Thanks for being open to adding new features to MegaReader and QuickReader for all of us orphaned by the loss of Stanza.

This is an app that can change ur life. It will save you so much time and at the same time making reading such a pleasure that you will not want to put a book down until its done! It takes some time to get use to it, but if you are patient with yourself it really becomes fascinating how easy can become such a light and delightful task.

One does need to keep coming back to this app to keep speed reading up to speed. Since not all books are available from the forums of book downloads in quick reader, unless I missed something. Please make this function possible?

I really love this app reading with it is just really a pleasure! Very nice app. Excellent at helping you increase your reading speed.

Downloading from Feedbooks etc. This is also a passable ereader, but to truly work, it needs to allow you to side load other books. Maybe in an update?

Quick reader excels at what it sets out to do: I have no complaints. I only use this app to read in bed. I'm not learning to read faster. It has adequate controls for screen displays. I do wish there were more titles, but imagine almost everyone would find this app satisfatory for format and content. One of the few apps I don't regret purchasing. It only took a few minutes until I upped my reading speed.

After a few hours, I've doubled it. Reading this way did require more concentration on my part.

Quick reader is very easy to use and I am totally impressed by it's simplicity and utter convenience. Thank you, thankyou. This is really a useful tool to improve your reading speed.

I have tried many in the past in vain. This app has been improving my speed quite well since I got it. Everyone should use it! So far, I have been using the pasteboard feature. I have been looking for a reader like this for years. This one is better than I hoped for. I love the software. I have been able to reader quicker and actually read more of my personal books. You will have to unlock your own personal ebooks with other software first in order to import them into this software.

A little tricky but after that your good to go. Yay I love it. It needs to integrate with websites so that people can read it directly rather than copy and paste.

This is fantastic ap tp use to boost your reading speed. The iPad version is easier to use than the iPhone ap, the screen is much more like a "normal" page size, and its much easier on the eyes. I've been using this ap in conjunction with Tony Buzan's speed reading book, and the easily adjustable speed reader mode, which allows you to push to speeds of well over wpm is great for that.

The moveable cursor has a number of different customizable features, it took a while to find the style that suited me best.

You can also read in "normal" book mode, which makes it like any other book reader. As such, it compares well with the iBook reader, and page turns are very quick.

I prefer both to the Kindle iPad ap. By the same token you ll find other creatures that can make your worst nightmares seem tame. I look forward to reading the next book especially since the author left the book end as a cliffhanger. If this is going to be a serial, it promises to be an amazing one! I just loved Amy Bloom's White Houses. The love affairs of Elenor, and her lover.

From the perspective, and voice of Hitcock. I loved the writing, the prose was poetic. It reminded me of the writing of, Paula McClain. I am a history buff, and Ms. Bloom description made you feel that you time travelled back. With everything exactly in the time. Down to the street lights. I had a difficult time at first reading. Because you think of our president, and First Lady with no flaws.

That is not true. We are all human. Just keep that in mind while you read.It means that when you buy a book in Safari browser, and set up iPhone as a device to deliver it, you will be able to open the new item immediately after you switch to the Kindle application.

Highlighting and annotation tools are available but require a few taps to access the advanced features. I have no complaints. This is hugely ironic given the ease with which so many other computer applications use different fonts.

I just wish it had Readability integration both for your reading list and for putting in a URL and getting plain text. The speed reading option is invaluable, and the standout feature it has above the other readers.

TIANA from Nebraska
Look through my other posts. I take pleasure in bridge building. I do relish reading books playfully .
